You Are A Badass

If I had a dollar for every person that asks me "What is your secret to being successful?" I would be a millionaire by next year! Lol

So do you want to know my secret too?!?!?!?

Ok here it is....

I exercise a muscle that unfortunately most adults don't... and that is my brain

When we are growing up we do this day in and day out which is why we are curious, creative and always open to learning.  As we get older we seem to think that we can just stop learning but this is what causes most people to loose their passions and dreams way before they actually pass away.  It's so sad and it hurts my heart because I witness it every day.  Please take time and invest in yourself even if its 10 minutes a day to help yourself grow.

I will be reviewing books and sharing what I learn from them in hopes to inspire you to take action and also read them so that you too can start exercising your brain muscle to be stronger and stronger and bring you back to your younger years when you would dream BIG because you knew you deserved it.

My first book review is the one and only You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero.

I am totally obsessed with this book and I was checking it out of the library until my great friend Korin (my #RVsister) surprised me with my own copy and my own You Are a Badass Talking Button!!! I am so obsessed with this book that I dove out of my comfort zone and recorded myself reading each chapter and uploading them to my YouTube channel because I feel everyone needs to at least take the time to listen to this book!

If you are currently at a point in your life where you feel that you aren’t living the life that you really want then this is the book for you.  Everything in this book can be applied to absolutely any aspect of your life; including business, work, marriage, relationships and volunteering.  Many of the things Jen Sincero says you have probably heard before but her way of writing sometimes feels like a wake up punch right in the gut, where it leaves you hunched over for a split second only to stand up even straighter than before and feel ready to punch the world right back!

You Are a Badass is a self-help book offering advice on how to see your life through a different lens, how to find your passion, and live the life that you really want not what you settled down to live.  She also does a fabulous job at explaining why we get stuck in ruts and also our relationship we have with money all while kicking all excuses to the curb.  After reading the book you are inspired to make the necessary changes to your life to start living your life and not just settling!

For me personally after reading this book a total of 3 times (and still counting) I feel it has helped increase my positivity and my productivity with my own business.  The universe has been responding to my great attitude with matching great gifts and this is just the beginning!  It helped me look at time differently instead of saying "I don't have time," I have to stop and really think about how I can rearrange my time so that I can make the time to do what needs to get done; because like she mentions we all have time for everything that needs to get done but many times we choose to not use our time efficiently.

On that note I want to share some of the quotes from the book that really resonated with me (these few don't give the whole book justice but I have to share at least some):

"You are the only you there is and ever will be. I repeat, you are the only you there is and ever will be."

“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.”

“What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.”

“There’s nothing as unstoppable as a freight train full of fuck-yeah.”

“Hang out with people who are living on purpose, who meet their challenges with a step aside, suckers attitude, who are dating super awesome people, making exactly the kind of money they want to be making (or working toward it) or taking the kinds of vacations they, and you, want to be taking, and you’ll not only see what’s possible for you,”

“We are all perfect in our own, magnificent, fucked-up ways. Laugh at yourself. Love yourself and others. Rejoice in the cosmic ridiculousness.”

“We only get to be in our bodies for a limited time, why not celebrate the journey instead of merely riding it out until it’s over?”

"You don’t have to hit rock bottom to make change. You can just decide."

"If you believe it, it is your truth. Your thoughts and beliefs dictate reality, so if you don’t like your reality, change these."

"To kick ass you have to lift your foot off the ground."

"Respect yourself instead of catering to your need to be liked. Never apologize for being you. Own your ugly."

"Your friends really do have a major impact on your future, so ditch the Negative Nancy’s."

"We pay a lot of lip service to leaps of faith and following your dreams but to actually do it is deemed crazy."

"Fear lives in the future. It hasn’t happened yet so why create the drama?""

"Procrastination is the easiest form of self sabotage – you’ll either find a way or an excuse."

“You are perfect. To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it’s got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid.”

Pretty awesome and powerful quotes right?!?!?!?

She includes many of her own personal failures and success stories in her book mixed in with tons of powerful lines!  I really encourage you to order this book so that you can highlight and write all over it with your own AHA moments because I promise you that it WILL change your life and WILL make you realize that YES You too are a Badass!!!!

P.S. I just saw this awesome calendar for 2017 which I totally just ordered LOL

Awesome article, I’m not an avid reader but I’m interested in giving this a go. Especially if you were so driven to record yourself reading it. I love this quote “You don’t have to hit rock bottom to make change. You can just decide”. I don’t think people realise you can elect to make the change it doesn’t have to be forced on you. Great article x

I love the title of this book! Self doubt is probably my number one problem… Others believe in me and I prove to myself over and over… but yet, that little voice in the back of my head. This sounds like a great book, I will have to give it a go. 🙂

oh BOY that procrastination one hits home. I am on absolute overload with volunteering and it leaves no time for anything else. I keep saying it’ll be slowing down soon because the holidays are coming to a close, but I shouldn’t have overloaded so much because it makes everything else so very hard to get to. That is nice that your friend gave you the book. 🙂

This sounds like a book that I need to read! There a few really great ones around. Have you seen the book “The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F#&*.” It is honestly a great read, very thought provoking and made me review everything I do!

If we want something to happen in our lives, we have to learn how to move and make it happen. I think this book pushes and motivates people to do exactly that. What a great way to empower yourself.
